Vendor-on-premises programs have emerged from a decade of extraordinary growth and established themselves as a staffing business model that will endure. Coming off of a five-year, new-concept growth run of more than 30% annually, VOP business now has settled into a pattern of stable growth approximating that of the overall temporary help sector of the staffing industry.

VOP Facts:

  • Typical VOP growth in a staffing company? They add one project per year.
  • Tenure – VOPs last more than 4 years.
  • Workers/site - 75% have 50-150 workers/site. 11% <50/site, 8% >250 workers.
  • Number of internal staff - 75% use one or two full-time employees. Typical VOP has one full-time worker per 75 workers.
  • Markup - most often at 42-45% markup vs 50-55% range in non-VOP business.
  • Equally as profitable as typical staffing business.

Q - How do I determine what clients are good candidates for an on-site program?

Answer

Perhaps the single biggest motivator for clients to consider an on-site program is their own frustration over trying to manage the complexities that come with managing temporaries. In technical environments, as few as 15 temporaries may trigger a client's frustration. for clerical and/or industrial environments 25 temporaries could be the "magic" number. You should conduct an assessment to determine $$$ volume temp usage/potential usage…client's problems and concerns regarding temp usage/temp suppliers…and develop solutions for the client. There are not hard and fast rules whether or not a client can benefit from an on-site program.
